In my current role at Charles Tyrwhitt, I’ve had the opportunity to lead design research and support the design of performance product within a workwear-first brand. Recognising the shift in customer expectations, we’ve successfully introduced elevated performance styles such as golf-ready knitwear, stretch chinos, technical shorts, and breathable jersey pieces.

Performance Chinos

Performance Chinos

When conducting design research in New York City, our design team identified that our American customer had begun blending activewear with their office attire. A product we couldn’t ignore in the research was the stretch chino, designed to enhance performance on the golf course, but dual-sourced as a comfort staple in the office.

Performance Knitwear

Performance Knitwear

Following the ever-growing performance trends in the market, it felt only right to build on the success of our merino quarter zip. Our performance zip neck range remained 100% merino, but with a fully water repellent finish. Updated with a rubberised zip pull, to follow the market, and create a garment suitable for both the office and the golf course.

Performance Shorts

Performance Shorts

As our first performance range would be launching during a Spring / Summer season, it felt like the right time to trial performance shorts. Made from the same base as our performance chinos, and following the block of our current cotton shorts, designed to have a familiar fit but a greater level of comfort.
